FAQ Memima Baby

BOOST YOUR BABY’S BRAIN POWER: +2000 musical ear training exercices for babies. Boost your baby’s future skills related to comunication, problem solving and language learning. The ETFES© Method (Ear Training for Early Stimulation) is a unique early stimulation method for babies that combines the language of music and affection. Designed and adapted by experts, Memima Baby® is used by thousands of families worldwide.

1 When can I start using Memima Baby® with my baby?

We recommend beginning after the first month. Especially if you’re first time parents, it’s a good idea to first get used to the new routine and day-to-day dynamic. On the other hand, if your baby is less than a month old and you want to go ahead and start, you can do so whenever you see that your baby responds positively.

2 How long does it make sense to use Memima Baby®?

Each section on the app will show how long it makes sense to use it. Due to the window of opportunity for the brain’s neuroplasticity between 0 and 3 years old, the sooner you begin the greater the method’s benefits will be. For example: the babies who begin around one month old show the effects on babbling and language earlier, managing to babble or intone along with the exercise sessions at around 2 months old.

3 What benefits will this early stimulation method provide my baby?

  1. Language Learning: Stimulating your baby’s ear during the period when your baby is learning to speak can be truly exciting. Musical cognition and language cognition go hand in hand. As such your baby will acquire a greater ability to learn languages in the future. Remember, the neuronal circuits of language in the frontal and temporal lobes are consolidated during the first year of life. If we allow our baby to hear more musical sounds, the synapses in the corresponding brain area will be activated more frequently. The speech and the sounds that make your baby think stimulate the language areas of their brain!
  2. Enhanced Learning Ability: Repeating a specific activity, like training your baby’s musical ear, creates stronger synapses; and strong synapses help the different neuronal networks to be more connected and effective, providing support for learning and memory. Strong synapses will promote more connected and effective neuronal networks, providing support for cognitive abilities.

We have to remember that the genes can provide a framework for a range of possibilities for a baby’s brain, but what happens in the brain until the third year of life is equally decisive.

  • Stimulating and working on the emotional bond: Emotional stimulation is the most effective method and it generates a greater number of neurotransmitters. It’s a good idea to do a good part of the sessions together, especially at the beginning. As your child begins to grow and become more mobile, you can change the time when you apply the method. When developing your own routine to listen to the exercises, you’ll be turning that time for the sessions into “your time”.  You’ll share a unique, timeless moment that will turn into peace, love and mutual tenderness. The positive sensations which a baby receives during their first years of life will have very beneficial effects for their happiness. The first three years are a great opportunity for adults to send positive feelings to the baby!
  • Enjoying a unique experience: If you’ve thought about music classes for your kids in the future, the best way to start is by training their musical ear while they’re learning how to speak.  You’ll also be preparing them to be bilingual, as music is the language of emotions. Music is also governed by the same mathematical rules and codes as physics and the universe itself.  Just remember how difficult it is to learn a new language once we’ve already passed the stage when we listen in order to learn to speak! This set of factors will allow you to observe moving and curious situations when you see your baby interact with the exercise sessions, or when they intone or babble during or after a session.

We encourage you to experiment with it. Alternate sessions with close attention and observation with more experimental sessions where we recommend you to try the following:

  • Sing to your baby and encourage them to sing during or after the sessions
  • Follow the rhythm together with your baby: caress your son or give him a massage to the rhythm of the exercises
  • If your daughter’s old enough, put a toy instrument in her hands!
  • Improved adaptability and resilience: The early development of the brain is fundamental for the adaptability and resilience of human beings.

At some point did you ever wonder why in classrooms, whether at elementary school, high school or college, there were other students who seemed to have a particular talent for language, drawing, music, or math….or at using their memory to learn new things?

4 How is this method different from other early stimulation methods?

This method is designed to train the musical ear, specifically tailored for babies, which is applied in the period when babies are listening in order to learn how to speak.  The method allows babies to think through musical notes, taking into account the way that melodic and rhythmic variations attract them.

This method is an emotional early stimulation method.  Emotional stimulation is more effective and provides better results, as such it becomes a very gratifying experience for the parents.

5 How does Memima Baby® stand out from the normal music or melodies for babies?

ETFES© is a progressive method. It is a musical ear training program adapted as an early stimulation method for babies, which is based on developing and strengthening emotional bonds through the experiences and senses felt during the sessions. These are exercises that we practice to be able to compose or interpret music.

This method is designed for evolutionary and progressive work, week after week, section after section. This way, babies internalize and consolidate exercises and compositions which are always linked to each other. Using this method will help you commit to the continuity in these sessions, which will lead you to apply them consistently. This consistency will be beneficial in many ways.

The best way to complement our method is to listen to other music.  But don’t confuse the exercise sessions with listening to music like you normally do.  No musician or composer trained their ear by listening to music. Musicians train their musical ear by consistently practicing and progressing through specific exercises over different periods of time.

Listening to music as you always do will complete the lessons learned throughout the exercise sessions and will work like listening to a dictation; your baby will be able to identify sound intervals, arpeggios and small melodic fragments in the music that you listen to each day. Remember that consistency is key! Just 5 minutes a day is enough. If you can do more: Even better!

Week after week, you will continue completing the musical goals until finishing all of the sections that make up the method.

This way, the different musical concepts will continue to become settled and internalized with a single objective: to stimulate the different areas of the brain related with language and emotions, and finally to allow your baby to think musically or through frequencies during the period when she is listening in order to learn how to speak.

Each section will include characteristics and exercises specifically tailored to certain melodic, harmonic or musical concepts. This way, for example, the “breastfeeding section” is phase to welcome babies and parents to music in which the exercises are softer, while in the sections “Improving speaking” or “Languages” there will be livelier, more dynamic or complex exercises. These later exercises would be significantly more difficult to understand and internalize without having passed through each of the previous phases of the method.  Each phase will have a specific musical identity.

Each session is structured so that it begins and ends with an identifying sound or exercise characteristic of each phase, so that your baby can recognize it.  Several distinct exercises, between 40-60 seconds long, will appear in each session. After each exercise there will be about 10-20 seconds of melodic rest so that babies can internalize part or the entirety of what they have heard, depending on the exercise. This structure may vary according to the sections.

All the Memima Baby® sessions have been designed to provide stimulation for babies while relaxing and you can enjoy developing your emotional bond together. This way you can create a new, unique and incomparable experience.

Memima Baby® and the ETFES© have created the lullabies of the future. Until now, lullabies were only to keep company with babies, now they will help babies think.  We are the first to propose this type of innovative method, always thinking about how to contribute the greatest benefits to future generations. Welcome to the Memima Baby® early musical stimulation method!

6 Can I combine Memima Baby® with another early stimulation method?

Of course! We have created Memima Baby® and its method as the best complement for any other type of early stimulation option for babies.

7 How is the method structured?

The method is structured according to the time you listen to the exercises and exercise sessions, and your baby’s age. That way, as you go about finishing each section you’ll find tips and specific recommendations.

Once you have finished a section, you can continue using it as you like. It will help to improve the benefits.

The goal will be to complete the most sections that you can corresponding to your baby’s growth stage. This will help you get the most out of the method.

8 Can I work with more than one section at a time?

Of course! This will help you get the most out of the method. The more you listen to the daily sessions, the greater the benefits.

9 Is consistency important?

Of course. If you can only do one session per day, that is more than enough. The next day, the player will always offer you the corresponding session, all you have to do is worry about pressing play.

The goal will be to complete the most sections that you can corresponding to your baby’s growth stage. This will help you get the most out of the method.

10 Can I do 6 sessions in a row?

If your baby responds positively, yes, but you can also spread them over different times throughout the day as things arise.

11 What is the optimal number of times that you should play the lessons each week?

We recommend listening at least 6 times per week

The optimal number of weekly listening sessions is: 3-6 daily sessions If you can do more: Even better!

On the other hand, we want you to know that it is good to rest one or even two days a week. Rest is part of the learning process!

12 Is it a good idea to rest for a day?

Of course, it’s very good to rest for one or two days each week. This way your baby will internalize what they’ve heard. Additionally, you’ll see that your baby recognizes the sessions when you play them again and reacts to them.

13 Why can you take a few days off from the method each week to rest?

Rest is part of the learning process. You can do a lesson whenever your baby is willing to. On the other hand, as we’ve mentioned, rest allows babies to internalize what they have learned, as long as you don’t quit the method. You can rest one or two days per week for example, this way you’ll keep your routine. When you pick up the lessons again, you’ll also look forward to them even more.

14 I am considering going on vacation for a week or two, can I stop the sessions during the vacations and pick them up again afterward?

Of course! As we mentioned in the previous section, when you purchase more than one week of access to Memima Baby®, we give you extra time so that you can rest if necessary, or stop the sessions during vacations. This way you can pick them up again later, following the parameters allowed or established by our methodology.

15 My baby is sick this week. Can I stop the sessions and start them up again later?

Of course! As we mentioned in the previous section, when you purchase more than one week to do the sessions with the intention of continuing with the method, we give you extra time so that you can cover the weeks that you may miss due to illness. This way you can pick them up again later, following the parameters allowed or established by our methodology.

16 I stopped using the BabyWiseTunes® method for one, two or four months. Can I start it up again?

Of course! Most likely you have none of your original credits left, but remember that it is very worthwhile to provide stimulation for your baby up until three years of age, especially if you do it with a neuroscientific, musical and emotional method like ours.

17 Once the method is started, can I stop it?

There’s no problem if you don’t access the method for one or two weeks.  We understand that the day to day life of families these days is pretty hectic, so the method is designed so that you can start up again when you have the time without it affecting the sessions’ exercises from being correctly internalized. The sessions will always progress while reviewing the exercises or concepts from previous sessions.

18 What happens if I don’t play any of the sessions?

If you don’t play any of sessions for a week, the method will not move forward. That way when you want to pick them up again, you can play the method’s sessions where you left off.

19 What happens if I don’t play the minimum number of weekly sessions?

It’s not a problem. Next week you can make up for the lost time. The important thing is not to give up. Consistency and hard work are the key.

20 Can dads apply the method like moms?

Yes, either parent of you can apply the method as you prefer, or you can do it together.

21 We have other children, can we do the lessons together?

Yes, whenever you have the right atmosphere to listen to the sessions. This will often depend on the older child’s age and character. One really good option could be to use Memima Baby® to wake the little ones up if they sleep in the same room.  Another option could be to use the sessions to relax together at the end of the day as a family, whether in the dining room or in their bedroom. If you see that it doesn’t work, it’s always best to do the sessions separately. You can use different sections on the app based on the age of each child.

22 What does the method advance slowly?

Any musical method, whether for adults or for children, must advance slowly and progressively. This is because the method’s types of melodic changes are designed for the ways that babies respond to small changes, to variations in melody or frequency. To the ears of an adult who doesn’t have a trained musical ear, they may not understand the changes or variations which are present in exercise after exercise, session after session.

23 My baby is restless, can I use Memima Baby®  to calm them down?

Frequently the sessions from our method serve to calm babies down or put them to sleep, however this won’t always work. Remember that there may be many reasons for your baby to feel restless and the attention from parents or caregivers is extremely important to detect the reasons for their restlessness and act appropriately.

24 Do we always have to listen to the sessions at the same time?

Although getting into a routine may be practical and interesting, it’s not strictly necessary.

Think about how babies learn to speak apparently without evening listening, without any routine of exercises. They simply do it with consistency.

25 What happens if my baby is already crawling or walking and goes away from where the music’s playing?

It’s not a problem. Your baby will continue listening to the session, even if from another room. They’ll hear it at a lower volume and with a lesser presence of acute frequencies. This can sometimes be a way for them to experience the sound, whether seeking it out or going away from it, as you will observe interactions with the rhythm or the voice.

26 Can my baby be doing other things while listening to the sessions?

Of course. Your baby may be playing with you, with a toy or with a toy musical instrument.

27 My baby is sick or is having a bad day, do I have to do the day’s session?

No, you should never force a session if your baby is showing symptoms of irritability. Remember that less is more and that our sessions aim to create a positive emotional environment. It’s always better to wait for another time. Emotional stimulation is more effective, and the same thing happens at the learning level as your baby grows. If positive emotions are involved, your child will learn better.

28 How loud should I play the sessions?

Always listen to it at a soft volume that allows for a relaxing atmosphere. Depending on the moment and your baby’s age, you have to apply the same volume as you would normally use for any other piece of music or lullaby.

29 Do I have to play the sessions using the telephone or using speakers?

You can play them on your cellphone and leave it close by so that you can listen correctly, or from the speakers that you normally connect to your phone. That way you can enjoy the high quality of the recording.

If you do the sessions listening to the audio from the phone, you don’t need to have the phone in your hands.

30 Do I need Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G to play the sessions?

Yes, you need an internet connection. Preferibly Wi-Fi.

31 The audio of the sessions stops while I’m playing them, why does this happen?

This is due to a poor Internet connection or the lack of cellphone data. Check that the telephone is correctly connected to your normal Wi-Fi network.

The audio may be blocked at certain moments and may go back to the beginning due to the complexity of the session reading system with our server.  We recommend closing and opening the application again. If this error continues to occur, please contact us at: customer@memimababy.com

32 What do I have to do during the sessions?

Each session lasts between 4 and 5 minutes. These listening sessions allow babies to think in a specific manner as they listen to learn how to speak.

You just have to play the sessions at any peaceful time, whether it’s while you’re watching each other, you’re dressing your son, feeding your daughter, giving her a massage, when waking your baby or putting them to sleep, or at any other time that only you can find time for.

You can enjoy it while you watch and interact with each other, while playing, while getting your baby dressed… Remember that this is an early stimulation method for their ears, but you as adults can also relax while listening to the sessions.

The best thing you can do is to let everything flow. As the method continues progressing, you’ll see different reactions. The first sign may be that your baby relaxes, smiles or listens intently.

We recommend that you:

  • Observe. Follow their gaze!
  • Caress or hold your baby tenderly. You’ll feel close to each other!
  • Listen to your baby. As the exercises advance, you’ll see your son or daughter try to interact with the sound during or after the session.
  • Sing to your baby. If you feel it, you can sing over the sound of water between each exercise, along with an exercise or after finishing the session.  Remember that your child has to be able to internalize the exercises.  But if you already have an established work routine, your singing will stimulate your baby and also complement the method’s exercises.
  • Simply let your baby listen. You can use the sessions to relax while you do something else.
  • Put a toy musical instruments within their reach: When you’ve been applying the method for more than 4 weeks, in every other lesson you can put a toy instrument within their reach, as long as your baby is old enough. Preferably a piano. This is a great exercise and will also help to complete the method.
  • Play with your child: You can play with your baby by giving them a massage or gymnastic exercises for their limbs while you follow the rhythm of the session. Let yourself be swept away by the rhythm of the sessions’ exercises!

Relax: Relax and let the exercises play!

In the following questions, you’ll find more information about the sessions.

33 Does the screen serve any purpose?

No, it’s simply a background.

Your baby doesn’t have to do anything with the screen.

34 Can I do any type of physical exercise while we listen to a session?

You can as long as your baby responds positively. You can give your baby a massage or do some exercise for physical stimulation. You can find these types of exercise sessions in the section: “Massage”.
